telephone and voice mail systems for business

Voice Over Internet Protocol, also known as VoIP, is commonly mistaken as a solution for free long distance. While there are some definite long distance advantages that can be derived from SIP Trunking, it is not currently the most popular trunking solution.

In our experience, VoIP provides huge benefits to companies looking for cost-effective ways to make multiple sites look transparent or provide telephones to offsite employees. With VoIP, it is possible to have multiple offices, anywhere, that can communicate with one another over existing data networks. These types of connections allow office-to-office communication without any long distance charges. It also allows businesses to share common telecommunication resources and features such as ACD, voice mail, conference bridge services, video communications and much more. Networking multiple sites is not always limited to offices that are located out of state; often, customers expand to a building across the street or across town but have no way to get cabling between the two sites. In such a scenario, the company can purchase data circuits from a local provider and run their voice and data services over the same network, or they can implement a wireless network between the two sites and connect them using equipment that is their own, instead of paying for it month-to-month. However, keep in mind that wireless systems are more susceptible to latency issues.

When only a few remote telephones are needed, VoIP telephones can be set up at the remote site without adding a new PBX system. This allows companies to have phones at their smaller sites at a lower cost, while still benefitting from all of the features of the telephone system. The beautiful thing about IP telephones and networking remote sites together is that all of the same features available on your telephone system continue to work over the IP network. A customer can program one-touch keys on a telephone or attendant console that allow them to call a co-worker across the network, as well as see if their line is busy or available to take a call. This allows a centralized receptionist to monitor the status of employees in the local office as well as at a remote site.

The other major advantage to implementing a VoIP system is its ease of use. An existing IT department can manage the system. If an employee needs to move to a different office, simply provide a live connection to the network switch and reconnect the telephone. The IP phone will connect to the system and automatically recognize its extension number and all existing user settings. It is no longer necessary to call out a technician to move a cross-connect or reprogram a telephone for the user.

It is important to remember that telephones are crucial to the success of a business. In today’s world, people want fast, reliable communications. Make sure that your customers can contact you quickly and that their experience with your communications system is a pleasant one. Contact us today to discuss whether VoIP is right for you.
